5-day itinerary through Alagoas

First day – Gunga beach in Barra de São Miguel

Praia do Gunga em Barra de São Miguel
Gunga Beach in Barra de São Miguel

Not a few tourists know Barra de São Miguel only as a boarding point to Gunga beach.

What they don’t know is that the tiny town, 30 km from Maceió, is home to one of the favorite resorts of the Alagoas elite, with a beautiful beach of natural pools at low tide and strong waves at high.

The good formations, by the way, make São Miguel a constant scene of regional surfing championships.

One of the most popular tours is the boat trip to Gunga beach and Roteiro lagoon, passing by islets, mangroves and barrier reefs.

O que fazer na Praia do Gunga em Alagoas?

Praia do Gunga, one of the postcards of Alagoas dotted with coconut trees and fine sands, is located in the area of a coconut farm, where the sea meets the lagoon.

Many bars are scattered along the shore – in high season, they usually fill up with excursions from Maceió. In this case, you only have to walk a little to find an almost empty strip of sand.

Also on São Miguel beach, the presence of chartered buses is common on weekends. The group takes over the area that concentrates bars and kiosks.

To get away from the hustle and bustle, head to the stretch in front of the houses, which is less crowded. When it’s time for dinner, wander around the pizzerias, tapiocarias and sandwich shops that are scattered throughout the center and Vila Niquin. Or head to the resorts, which have restaurants open to the public.

Gunga beach has calm, crystal-clear waters, protected by coral reefs, which make Barra de São Miguel famous. The movement is intense in summer and on weekends both on the beach that gives the village its name and on the beautiful Gunga beach. To relax, try to go during the week!

Second day – Praia do Francês in Marechal Deodoro

Praia do Francês becomes one of the biggest tourist destinations in Alagoas.
In Marechal Deodoro, Praia do Francês is one of the regions that has been growing the most in recent years.

With the coming of summer and the end-of-year festivities, the expectation is that the Frenchman will once again be the great attraction.

The Praia do Francês stands out for its natural pools, warm and relaxing, and also for having a wilder area, known as “surfers space”, for having big waves and trendy bars.

What has been attracting attention are the nights at the resort, which every weekend has several musical attractions and new culinary points.

Third day – Maragogi

Maragogi, which became known as the Brazilian Caribbean, is a tourist center between Maceió and Recife.

The natural beauties of the region are ideal for resting in a resort with structure by the sea.

If you like sun, beach and want to visit the region, see below some reasons that will make you understand why Maragogi is considered the Brazilian Caribbean.

Natural Pools

The coral reefs of Maragogi form natural pools, known in the region as Galés, ideal for diving and observing the great diversity of fish, corals, shells and urchins. Because of these reefs, the area is of environmental preservation.

The natural pools are the great attraction of Maragogi, being about 5 km from the coast, being possible to arrive by means of speedboats that leave the beach. It is a tour that lasts an average of 20 minutes.

The beaches and the sea of crystal clear waters

The crystal clear and shallow turquoise waters of Maragogi combined with the soft white sand of the beautiful and paradisiacal beaches enchant people of all tastes. The sea of the Brazilian Caribbean is calm and the region is surrounded by coconut trees.

Maragogi is composed of the following beaches: São Bento, Praia do Camacho, Praia de Maragogi, Praia de Barra Grande, Praia de Japaratinga, Praia do Antunes, Praia do Dourado, Praia de Ponta de Mangue and Praia de Peroba. Among them, Praia do Antunes and its colorful cliffs stand out.

Fourth day – São Miguel dos Milagres

São Miguel dos Milagres: ecological route holds Caribbean water, ‘miraculous’ fountain and tour with manatees

The Discover Brazil went to São Miguel dos Milagres and Porto de Pedras – two stars of the route. There, the highlight is the Lages Beach and its unique colored water.

The Discover Brazil Tour…

São Miguel dos Milagres em Alagoas

The Ecological Route of Milagres unites a trio that has been attracting many tourists to small towns on the north coast of Alagoas: Caribbean water, faith and nature preservation.

São Miguel dos Milagres and Porto de Pedras are two stars of the route.

There, highlight to the Praia de Lages and its water of unique color. In Praia do Patacho, the sea is calm, the water is warm and the sunset makes the ocean a mirror.

In ecology, the Manatee Sanctuary, located on the Tatuamunha River, is where tourists meet nature: diving in the river, strolling through the mangroves and some interaction with the mammals. Along the route, there are works of preservation of native forest and reforestation.

When it comes to faith, the legend is a story told by the locals that involves an image of St. Michael the Archangel, a sick fisherman and an underground spring that gushes water 24 hours a day.

It is necessary, however, to be aware of what the tide table says: depending on the height of the sea on a given day, it is not possible to take the tour of the natural pools of Milagres.

The reasons? The safety of bathers, the preservation of corals scattered around the pools and the quality of the ride. At high tide, the effect of transparent waters is not the same as on days of tide bordering 00 millimeters.

Fifth day – Maceió

Maceió, the capital of Alagoas, reserves great urban beaches with clear and warm waters. Its waterfront is considered one of the most beautiful in Brazil, housing a huge bike path that runs along much of the 40 kilometers of coastline that bathe the city.

The historic city center of Maceió is a great place to get to know the past and culture of Alagoas, which was an important scenario at the time of colonization, when Portugal and Holland explored Tupiniquin lands. Churches and historic mansions with varied architectural styles can be seen in the streets of the center and in the historic neighborhood of Jaraguá, a bohemian area with 19th century buildings.

It is in the Jatiúca Beach that is the gastronomic pole of the city, restaurants of diverse specialties ranging from typical regional food, passing through French and Japanese restaurants found throughout the neighborhood. One of the options that offers a wide variety of northeastern food in a thematic environment is the restaurant Bodega do Sertão, one of the most famous in the city.

The highlight of Pajuçara beach are the natural pools located a few minutes away. The clear greenish waters of Maceió are also as beautiful as the beaches of the north and south of the state of Alagoas.

Several tourism agencies in the capital offer tours to municipalities and beaches scattered throughout the state, such as the cities of Barra de São Miguel and Marechal Deodoro, the historic city of Penedo and the quiet municipality of São Miguel dos Milagres in the north of the state.
