CANION OF SAN FRANCISCO

Catamaran or schooner trips leave Canindé do São Francisco through the canion do San Francisco river – 65 million years old, considered the fifth largest in the world and the most navigable on the planet – represent the greatest attraction of Canindé.

The itinerary, which can also be done by speedboat, takes about three hours.

At the end of the first one, there is a 40-minute stop at Paraíso do Talhado, a section of the canyon that looks like a huge pool and where you can dive or ride a boat. During the trip, pay attention to the beautiful rocks of Gavião and Japones and the Morro dos Macacos.

When choosing the type of vessel, consider that, on the schooner, you can be sheltered from the relentless sun, while the catamaran has what is known in the locality as a “natural swimming pool”, a kind of net that descends to the waters from the river, delimiting a space for bathers along the way.

XINGÓ HYDROELECTRIC

XINGÓ HYDROELECTRICA guided tour of the facilities of this Xingó Hydroelectric Power Plant, 5 km from Piranhas, in Alagoas, is a very interesting program.

The viewpoint of Companhia Hidrelétrica do São Francisco (Chesf) in Canindé do São Francisco offers an impressive view. Well structured, and a mandatory stop even for those traveling between Paulo Afonso, in Bahia, and Piranhas.

The highlight of the reception center is the wooden model that reproduces the hydroelectric plant. The place has an auditorium and video room.

The well-tended gardens display sculptures made with blocks of rocks from the region.

XINGÓ ARCHEOLOGY MUSEUM

The Xingó Archeology Museum gathers the largest concentration of skeletons of prehistoric men in Latin America – The oldest one dates from 7 thousand BC, there are 191 pieces, found in the archaeological sites of Justino and São José.

Xingó Archeology MuseumArranged in six rooms, the collection includes tools, necklaces and domestic utensils, among them some made of ceramic, over 11 thousand years old.

After the visit, tourists can watch a 15-minute video about the excavation and recovery work carried out there. Opened in 2000, MAX is part of the Federal University of Sergipe and works in partnership with Companhia Hidrelétrica do São Francisco.

With excellent infrastructure, it receives an average of one thousand visitors per month. Rod. Canindé-Piranhas, Trevo Xingó Hydroelectric Power Plant.

ANGICO GROTTO

GROTA DO ANGICO SEOn July 18, 1938, Virgulino Ferreira da Silva, Lampião, his wife, Maria Gomes de Oliveira, Maria Bonita, and nine other cangaceiros from his gang were ambushed and killed at the Angicos Farm. To reach this property, take a motorboat or catamaran in Piranhas.

The embarão docks in front of the only restaurant in Angicos. From there to the scene of the killing – a grotto, that is, a cavity in a large rock – the path is covered on foot.

It is recommended to bring cold water and repellent. Along the way, the guide briefly recreates the events of that historic date and, not infrequently, tourists get emotional in front of the grotto and pray there.

In honor of the cangaceiros, the community erected two crosses in front of the place, with the names of all the dead. The tour lasts four hours. For the guided tour, a minimum of fifteen people and prior appointments are required. Who takes: Xingó Parque Hotel.
