Guaramiranga is a charming mountain town located in the Baturité Massif in the state of Ceará.
Dubbed the “Switzerland of Ceará”, it is a tourist destination known for its natural beauty and mild climate, which attracts visitors all year round.

Location and access
Guaramiranga is located about 100 kilometres from Fortaleza, the capital of Ceará.
Its altitude is 865 metres above sea level, which ensures a consistently mild climate, with average annual temperatures ranging from 14ºC to 25ºC. During the month of July, temperatures can drop as low as 12ºC, creating a pleasant environment for visitors.

Guaramiranga’s mild climate favours a rich ecosystem, with one of the last preserved areas of Atlantic Forest in the state. The local fauna and flora are rich and form part of the Baturité Massif’s Environmental Protection Area (APA).
History of Guaramiranga
Originally known as Conceição, the town was promoted to the category of village with the name of Guaramiranga by Decree no. 59, dated 4 September 1890. The name “Guaramiranga”, of Tupi origin, means “red bird”, referring to the red heron.
Tourist Attractions
Guaramiranga is famous for its tourist attractions that combine culture and nature. The city is home to historic buildings, museums, waterfalls, lakes and nature trails.
It also offers a variety of accommodation options, including the possibility of camping in the middle of nature.
1. Pico Alto Viewpoint
Located at an altitude of 1,115 metres, the Mirante do Pico Alto offers breathtaking views of the mountains, especially at sunset. It is only 8 km from the city centre.
2. Jesuit Convent
This impressive stone building, built by Portuguese Jesuits, houses historic objects. 1.5 kilometres from the monastery is a hilltop viewpoint that can only be reached on foot. The monastery is located in Baturité, 14 kilometres from Guaramiranga.
3. Trails Park
Close to the centre, Parque das Trilhas offers six guided trails through the Atlantic Forest, ranging from 1 km to 3 km.
Visitors can observe native species of local flora and fauna and enjoy activities such as abseiling, kayaking and zip-lining.
4. Capuchin Convent
Inaugurated in 1935, the Capuchin convent, which welcomed missionaries from Italy, now functions as a guesthouse.
Visitors can explore its outdoor areas and appreciate its architecture, full of arcades and flower gardens.
5. Jazz and Blues Festival
During the Carnival, Guaramiranga hosts the most important international music event in the Northeast, the Jazz and Blues Festival, which has featured renowned artists such as Toots Thielemans and Stanley Jordan.
6. Cultural events
In addition to the Jazz and Blues Festival, Guaramiranga promotes a variety of cultural events throughout the year to encourage tourism and appreciation of local culture.
