Tourist spots in Jericoacoara

A trip to Jericoacoara is only complete when you visit the region’s beautiful lagoons, with hammocks set up just above the warm, calm waters.

To reach them, you need a 4×4 vehicle, which is the perfect excuse for a fun jeep ride. You can also enjoy the beaches and practise sports such as surfing and kitesurfing.

Jericoacoara is one of the best places in the world for kitesurfing and windsurfing.

Fortaleza is already known for being a windy place, as it receives the trade winds that blow from the African continent, but Jericoacoara really stands out for the strength of its winds.

Kitesurfing and windsurfing enthusiasts are guaranteed a place in Jericoacoara due to the strong winds of up to 40 knots.

Jericoacoara beach is considered one of the best for practising and learning these sports.

Another important point about Jericoacoara and Preá is that many inns are already adapting their structures to meet the demands of tourists who love water sports.

There are currently several kitesurfing schools with trained and accredited staff and top quality equipment. The inns offer transport to the best spots in the region and equipment storage.

The sport can be practised in places with different characteristics, flat water in the lagoons or the slightly rougher sea in the Preá region.

2. Lagoons

Lagoa de Jijoca is divided into two: Lagoa Azul and Lagoa do Paraíso.

The high dune, which is very popular in the evening, is next to the village of Jeri.

There you can watch the sun setting over the sea, a beautiful spectacle. Many people also take the opportunity to sandboard down the dune (a sport in which you slide from the top of a dune on a board, performing radical manoeuvres).

5. Pedra Furada

A postcard of Jericoacoara, Pedra Furada has a crevice in the middle, which is the best time to reach it at low tide.

As you walk along the edge of the beach, you’ll see caves and natural pools along the way.

If the tide is high, walk up the Serrote, a high hill that gives you a view of Pedra Furada from above.

6. Mangue Seco and Tatajuba

The tour includes various attractions in the vicinity of the village. Visit a natural seahorse nursery in Mangue Seco and, when you take the ferry, pass through Velha Tatajuba, a village swallowed up by the sand. Then, in Nova Tatajuba, stop for lunch at the lagoon with its calm waters.

When to go to Jericoacoara

You can visit Jericoacoara in Ceará all year round. Average temperatures vary between 35°C in summer and 22°C in winter. The rainy season runs from January to June, when the beautiful lagoons form. In August in Jericoacoara, the winds get stronger, ideal for sailing.
