This splendid map of Brazil is mainly a nautical chart with details limited to the coastline.
Oriented with north to the left by two fine points of the compass, it covers the Brazilian coast from the mouth of the Amazon to the Rio de la Plata, where Argentina now lies.
A dramatic title cartouche filling the interior is composed of a montage of scenes depicting Portuguese and Dutch explorers and missionaries, an indigenous ceremony, mining, exotic animals and products, etc.
