Originating in the Tupi Guarani language, the name Pindobaçu means “big palm tree”, referring to the fact that there have always been many babassu palm trees in the town.

The municipality of Pindobaçu is located in the Centre North of Bahia, more specifically in the micro-region of Senhor do Bonfim and borders the municipalities of Campo Formoso, Antônio Gonçalves, Mirangaba, Filadélfia, Saúde and Ponto Novo.

However, in the town, with an area of less than 500 k㎡, more than 200 emerald mines are found, attracting many people in search of the precious stones possibly discarded by the miners.
