In the Abiaí area, however, many people ride quad bikes along a 9 km route, usually on sand.

5. Lighthouse natural pools

1,5 km away from the edge of Praia de Pitimbu, this natural attraction can only be seen on days of low tide and is an alternative for those who want to escape other natural pools, already saturated in the Northeast.

In the last summer season, a resort in the Abiaí Reserve was about to launch a catamaran that would cross to the pools on the high seas. But the most genuine experience is still hiring some of the fishermen who leave from Praia de Pitimbu and prepare lunch on board.

8. Historic Center of Taquara

The Vila de Taquara, founded by the Dutch, still in Colonial Brazil, was one of the main and largest centers in the past, with three churches:

  1. Church of Our Lady of the Rosary
  2. Church of Our Lady of Penha de França
  3. The ruins of another church where today is the public cemetery of Taquara

The Church of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França is located in Taquara, to which Pitimbu belongs.

A curiosity is that the three churches form a triangle and two face the front. In addition to the churches, what draws attention is that Taquara still has village characteristics, despite the passing of the years.

In the city of Pitimbu there are 13 beaches, practically all of them deserted, within a radius of 26 km, earning the status of the largest beachfront strip in the state.

The municipality in Paraíba was once the indigenous territory of the Potiguara and Tabajara tribes, which means a water hole for tobacco.

The Indians fished and hunted, in addition to extracting brazilwood. At the time, wood was exchanged for food with the French, who landed in the region in the 16th century. Therefore, the place was called Porto dos Franceses, during the period of Colonial Brazil.

The Lighthouse, located further in the center of the coast, and Pedras das Galés, further south, are tourist attractions widely used for pole fishing (pindauba) and for bathing.

In Acaú, on the southern border of the municipality, it is characterized by the presence of mangroves and the mouth of the Goiana river, which configures a differential in the landscape in this area that borders the state of Pernambuco.

In addition to the natural beauty, this area has great ecological value for the local fauna and flora, in addition to the economic value for the traditional populations that live there and derive much of their food and livelihood from it, in the form of fish, shellfish, crustaceans, etc.

In general, the edge of the municipality presents a diversity of landscapes that provide different perspectives and scenarios that contribute as potentially important natural attractions for the sustainable development of the local economy.

Pitimbu in low season

In the low season, Pitimbu is usually very quiet, an untouched haven. The small town has the following attractions: boat trips, lunch prepared by the fisherman himself, heading to the natural pools of Farol or neighboring Branca do Curral, which is even more preserved.

Tours for three people, for example, include: fish with pirão, made on dry land, heated and served in the middle of the water by the fisherman himself, and cost from R$120.
