Itacaré stands out for presenting a lot of history in contrast with nature, details capable of seducing any more adventurous traveller.

The buildings of the city of Itacaré are marked by mansions and churches, filled with Bahian luxury. In terms of adventure and fun, the highlight goes to sports such as surfing, canoeing, abseiling and many others that will challenge your courage.

Itacaré offers so many possibilities that it is common to find people trying to organise their schedule to be able to see everything.

In the 80’s Itacaré was a village that has become a cosmopolitan universe where different tribes coexist, with a single and important interest in common: enjoying life.

It may be that a massage on the beach leads you to try the typical sweet of Bahian gastronomy called “banana real”; or a naive cycling through the city turns into an unusual invitation to an electronic party. This is the city’s daily life, without much routine and full of novelties.

The streets are filled with locals and tourists sharing loud laughter in a variety of accents.

It is on the pavements of the simple and colourful houses of the Porto de Trás neighbourhood that the “mainha” teaches the craft of braiding hair learned from her quilombola ancestors; in Passagem, in the Centre and on the waterfront, disputed domino matches bring together generations; in Pituba the sounds of restaurants, bars and shops mix with the movement of artists who use local raw materials in their handicrafts.

On the town’s charming beaches, in addition to the warm water tempered by the sun, it is possible to exercise in open-air capoeira classes or for the more enthusiastic to play sand football, here called “baba” with specific rules.

In addition to the sea, the Rio de Contas invites you to take a canoe trip amidst the mangroves and crabs. All this is part of the identity and culture of the people of Itaçar.

The end of the afternoon comes with an unforgettable sunset at Ponta do Xaréu with a view of the river flowing into the sea, porpoises, a flight of birds, the city’s waterfront with the Mother Church, all to the sound of the typical berimbau.

Throughout the year surfing championships attract sportsmen, tourists and locals, each choosing the beach and the perfect wave, and many beautiful people shaking the nights of the city.

There is no way to be unaware of so many experiences and sensations.
