Each of these islands in the Nine Islands Archipelago has a peculiar history attached to its name.

1. Ilha das Andorinhas

It takes this name because it belongs to the migratory route of the swallows, in summer it is possible to find several nests of this bird;

2. Ilha do Irineu (Fisherman)

It is named after Mr. Irineu, an old fisherman from the region, known throughout Brazil for being one of the few trígamos in the country.

3. Ilha do Fogo

It takes its name due to a pinga still that existed in the place, which went bankrupt motivated by the great consumption of the product by the employees themselves;

4. Isla de Santa Marta

Its name is a tribute to Santa Marta.

5. Almirante Island

It keeps this name due to a tribute to its former owner, a Navy Admiral who lived there until he passed away;

6. Ilha de Um Coqueiro Só

During a flood in 1989, the island was totally devastated by the waters of the lagoon, leaving only one coconut tree that ended up giving the place its name;

7. Ilha das Cabras

It has this name because its former resident had a herd of goats, which he was forced to dispose of due to the harmful impact on the environment.

8. Bora Bora Island

It got its name from the people’s pronunciation in response to an invitation to tour the island, shortening the word ‘though’ to ‘bora’. A hotel project for the site was blocked by the IMA;

9. Santa Rita Island

It is the largest lake island in the country (with more than 12 km² of surface) and an environmental preservation area, it is formed by the villages of Santa Rita, Siriba, Jacaré and Barra Nova, its name is also in honor of a Saint.

Throughout the route traveled by the schooner in the waters of the lagoons, we can see several landscapes until we reach the little beach, where there is a stop for bathing, gluttony and fun.

The place has a simple structure, a small floating bar that serves various snacks, kayaks and banana boats.

The tour lasts about four hours, including the stop. We recommend the schooner that departs 1:30 pm from Pontal, returning around 4:30 pm, as you will be able to contemplate a beautiful sunset, closing the day with a golden key.
